Injury Setback: Sajid Khan Ruled Out of Pakistan Shaheens’ England Tour

Pakistan Shaheens have suffered an early setback ahead of their one-day series in England, with off-spinner Sajid Khan ruled out of the tour after sustaining a fractured right thumb during a training session at Tonbridge School Ground.

The injury occurred during a fielding drill on the eve of the Shaheens’ opening match against the Professional County Club Select XI in Beckenham. After an initial assessment by the team’s medical staff, it was decided that Sajid would return to Lahore to begin rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy.

The 31-year-old was aiming to use this tour as a platform to stake his claim for a place in Pakistan’s limited-overs setup, having expressed interest in playing across all formats. Known for his control and consistency, Sajid was expected to play a key role in the spin department during the three-match series.

Despite the setback, team management has opted not to name a replacement, instead placing faith in the depth of the existing squad. The touring group includes several spin-bowling options among its all-rounders and emerging talents, although Sajid’s absence is likely to be felt, especially during the middle overs.

Development tours such as this are designed to give promising and fringe players valuable international exposure. Unfortunately, for Sajid, the injury not only disrupts his own ambitions but also affects Pakistan Shaheens’ bowling plans in unfamiliar English conditions.

Pakistan Shaheens will begin their one-day campaign today at the Kent County Cricket Ground, with the remaining matches scheduled for July 25 and July 27. The focus will now be on how skipper Saud Shakeel and his side adapt to this early challenge in the series.
