New Mpox Case Takes Sindh Total to 93
Sindh has reported another confirmed case of mpox, taking the total number of cases recorded in the province to 93 this year.
According to the provincial health department, the latest patient is a 50-year-old man from Qazi Ahmed in Nawabshah. He is currently receiving treatment at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital and Research Centre.
Hospital officials said the patient was referred from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. A senior doctor said his condition is concerning because he is also suffering from chronic kidney disease and has been undergoing dialysis.
Data from the Provincial Disease Surveillance and Response Unit shows that 11 people have died from mpox-related complications in Sindh so far this year.
Karachi has recorded the highest number of cases in the province, with 26 infections. Khairpur follows with 22 cases, while nine cases have been reported in Sukkur.
The monthly figures show that April recorded the highest number of mpox cases this year, with 31 infections. This was followed by September with 20 cases and August with 17.
Men account for 70 of the reported cases, while people aged between 30 and 39 years have been the most affected age group.
The Sindh Health Department said it is continuing to monitor the situation and urged people to take necessary precautions. Residents have also been advised to seek medical attention promptly if they develop symptoms associated with mpox.
