Brendan Donovan’s Late Double Lifts Cardinals Over Rockies 3-2

Brendan Donovan’s go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning powered the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night, handing the Rockies their eighth consecutive loss.

Starting pitcher Miles Mikolas delivered a strong performance, pitching 6 2/3 innings and allowing just four hits with three strikeouts. Mikolas held the Rockies hitless through the first 5 1/3 innings before Tyler Freeman broke up the no-hit bid in the sixth.

The Rockies took a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning with runs driven in by Warming Bernabel and Brenton Doyle, but Juan Mejia couldn’t hold the advantage in the eighth. Kyle Leahy stepped in to pitch 2 1/3 scoreless innings to secure the win for St. Louis.

Colorado’s Chase Dollander pitched five solid innings, allowing just one run—the first Rockies starter since August 2 to give up fewer than five runs in a game.

Alec Burleson contributed with an RBI for the Cardinals in the third inning. In a key defensive play, Bernabel stopped a crucial run in the sixth by charging Victor Scott II’s bunt and assisting in a tag out at home plate.

The Cardinals’ late surge helped them overcome a resilient Rockies team in a closely contested matchup.
