The WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup trophy continued its tour of Australia with a visit to Queensland Parliament on Wednesday, promoting the upcoming 2027 tournament and raising awareness of softball across the country.
The visit comes ahead of the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027, scheduled to take place from April 5 to 10 at Kayo Stadium in Moreton Bay, Queensland.
Queensland Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander welcomed the trophy alongside several state parliamentarians, including Redcliffe MP Kerri-Anne Dooley, Environment and Tourism Minister Andrew Powell, Women’s Minister Fiona Simpson and Customer Services Minister Steve Minnikin.
During the event, lawmakers had the opportunity to try softball in a demonstration led by Softball Australia chief executive Sarah Loh and Australian national team players Jayme Reddacliff and Alyssa Mighell.
The parliamentary visit followed the trophy’s official unveiling at Kayo Stadium last week, marking the start of a nationwide campaign to promote the World Cup and connect the sport with communities throughout Australia.
Nationwide Tour Builds Excitement for 2027 Tournament
Led by Softball Australia, the trophy tour will visit major softball events and community activities in different parts of the country. The initiative aims to bring players, volunteers and fans together while building anticipation for the international competition.
Upcoming stops include the Redcliffe Softball Association Pink Day on October 24, followed by national softball championships in Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. The trophy is also scheduled to visit Tasmania in February 2027.
Speaking at the trophy unveiling, Mander highlighted Queensland’s role in hosting major international sporting events as the state prepares for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Women’s Softball World Cup Finals will bring international attention to Moreton Bay in April 2027, providing an opportunity to showcase the sport and encourage greater community participation.
With the trophy tour continuing across Australia, organisers hope to build momentum for the Finals and strengthen interest in women’s softball ahead of the tournament.
