Two Public Holidays Announced in Lahore

Lahore Declares August 15 Public Holiday for Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA)

The Lahore district administration has declared Friday, August 15, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA).

According to the official notification, all government offices, educational institutions, and public departments in Lahore will remain closed on this day. With Independence Day already being observed on Thursday, August 14, residents of the city will enjoy two consecutive public holidays.

The Urs of Hazrat Ali Hajveri, commonly known as Data Sahib, is one of Lahore’s most significant spiritual events. Each year, thousands of devotees from across Pakistan gather at his shrine to pay their respects.

Public Holidays Across Pakistan

This announcement follows similar decisions in other regions. Recently, the Sindh Education Department declared August 15 a holiday for all public and private schools in observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), a day of mourning marked worldwide.

In addition, the Islamabad district administration announced August 13 as a local holiday within the federal capital’s revenue limits, as per a notification issued by ICT District Magistrate Irfan Nawaz Memon.
