COAS Asim Munir Awarded Azerbaijan’s Prestigious Patriotic War Medal
RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir has been honoured with Azerbaijan’s Patriotic War Medal for his outstanding role in strengthening bilateral military cooperation, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.
The award was presented by Azerbaijan’s Defence Minister, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, during a meeting at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev.
Established in 2002, the Patriotic War Medal is one of Azerbaijan’s highest state honours, given to individuals—both domestic and foreign—for exceptional services in boosting defence ties with the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, focusing on global and regional security. COAS Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s close fraternal relations with Azerbaijan and pledged to further enhance military and defence cooperation.
General Valiyev praised Pakistan’s efforts in the fight against terrorism and expressed his country’s determination to deepen collaboration in defence and security. The visiting dignitary also received a guard of honour and extended best wishes for Pakistan’s upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
Both leaders emphasised their shared commitment to regional peace, stability, and strategic cooperation.
