Captain Courageous: Alida Bennour’s Inspiring U21 Journey and Exciting Move to France

At just 18 years old, Algerian volleyball star Alida Bennour is making waves both on the international stage and in her professional career. Leading her country at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U21 World Championship, Bennour is proving that age is just a number when it comes to skill, leadership, and ambition.

This is her first World Championship outside Africa, and the talented opposite hitter has already stood out as Algeria’s top scorer in the tournament. Facing strong teams such as Canada, Poland, Italy, and Türkiye, Bennour has embraced the challenge with determination.

“It was an excellent experience for me and my team because we usually play in Africa,” Bennour shared. “It was very interesting to play in the World Championship and face teams with so much experience.”

A New Chapter in France

Bennour’s next challenge is an exciting one — joining Nancy Volley-Ball in France for her first professional season abroad. She will share the court with top international players, including Thai star Pimpichaya Kokram, in what promises to be a thrilling 2025-26 season.

“We have players from different countries, and I’m so happy to be part of the team,” she said. “I’m excited to go and play.”

Adapting to a New Level of Play

Moving from Algeria to France is a big step, but Bennour sees it as an important opportunity to grow.

“In Africa, the style of play is different,” she explained. “Playing in France will help me improve, and I’m ready to work hard.”

Her passion for sports runs in the family — her parents and relatives were active athletes in basketball and handball, with her father serving as her biggest mentor and supporter.

Future Goals and Determination

While she is focused on her first season in France, Bennour has her sights set on even bigger leagues.

“My dream is to play in Italy and Türkiye,” she revealed. “They have a lot of experience and a different style of play, so I want to keep developing until I’m ready for that level.”

Balancing education with her sporting career, Bennour plans to finish her university studies before committing 100% to volleyball.

As she continues to lead her team and prepare for life in France, Alida Bennour’s journey is a true example of courage, ambition, and dedication — qualities that make her one of the most exciting young talents in the sport today.
