NSW Squash Bega Open 2025 – Day 1 Results & Highlights
The 2025/26 PSA Squash Tour season officially kicked off today with an action-packed opening day at the NSW Squash Bega Open 2025. Eight players secured their spots in the second round of this Copper-level event, bringing thrilling performances to fans at the Bega Country Club.
Australia had a strong start, with Sarah Cardwell defeating England’s Jasmine Thirst in straight games, while Sophie Fadaely claimed victory over fellow Aussie Remashree Muniandy. Cardwell will next face top seed Anahat Singh, and Fadaely will take on No.5 seed Akanksha Salunke.
One of the most talked-about matches featured Egypt’s Nour Khafagy and Australian squash legend Rachael Grinham. At 48 years old, Grinham was competing in her remarkable 822nd PSA Tour match. Despite trailing 2-0, she fought back to win the third game and came close to forcing a decider, but Khafagy eventually closed it out 11-7, 12-10, 5-11, 11-9. Khafagy now advances to play No.3 seed Amina El Rihany.
Elsewhere, there were convincing three-game wins for Lojayn Gohary (Egypt), Ella Jane Lash (New Zealand), Noa Romero (Spain), and Tanvi Khanna (India). Japan’s Erisa Sano Herring produced a notable upset against Malta’s Colette Sultana, winning 3-1 despite being ranked 33 places lower.
Round Two begins at 18:00 (GMT+10) on Thursday, 14 August, with all matches streamed live and free on SQUASHTV.
