Pakistan Withdraws from Hockey Asia Cup 2025 Due to Security Concerns

The Pakistan men’s hockey team has officially withdrawn from the Hockey Asia Cup 2025, which is scheduled to take place in Rajgir, Bihar from August 27 to September 7.

Security Concerns Lead to Withdrawal

The decision comes amid rising political tensions between India and Pakistan, with the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) citing security concerns as the main reason for the withdrawal. The PHF emphasized that the safety and well-being of its players are paramount.

While the Indian government had offered to facilitate visas, Pakistan’s stance was driven by broader considerations, prioritizing player welfare above all else.

A Statement for Neutral Platforms

Although this move means missing out on a major international tournament, the PHF views it as a statement about the need for neutral and fair conditions in international sports. Officials have made it clear that Pakistan’s focus will remain on preparing for future global events, ensuring that the team can develop in a safe and supportive environment.

Bangladesh Replaces Pakistan in the Event

Following Pakistan’s withdrawal, Bangladesh has been confirmed as the replacement, ensuring that the Hockey Asia Cup will still feature an eight-team structure. For Pakistan, this absence is not seen as a retreat, but rather as a stand for conditions where athletes can perform without distractions or concerns.
