Bahawalpur: Probe Ordered into Awam Express Derailment, One Passenger Killed
Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has announced the formation of a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the recent derailment of Awam Express coaches at Lodhran Junction, which claimed the life of one passenger.
Speaking to the media in Bahawalpur after visiting Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) to inquire about the injured, the minister said the committee will submit its findings within three days. He assured that strict action would be taken against those found responsible, adding that negligence led to the tragic incident.
Mr. Abbasi also announced the upgradation of Lodhran and Bahawalpur railway junctions. He regretted that Lodhran station lacked basic facilities such as washrooms but confirmed that work will be completed within 60 days. Bahawalpur station, he noted, has already received a new building, and additional facilities will be provided soon.
He said Pakistan Railways plays a vital role in connecting the country, and its development will contribute to national progress. The minister further highlighted that new trains will be introduced under agreements with private companies, while sanitation conditions at Lodhran and Bahawalpur stations will also be improved with the support of local administrations.
Praising the district administration, Rescue 1122 teams, and medical staff for their timely response, he also expressed condolences to the family of Waqas, the passenger who lost his life in the accident.
BVH CEO and Principal of Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Prof. Dr. Sufia Farrukh, briefed the minister on the treatment of the injured passengers.
Bahawalpur: Minor Girl Assault Case Registered
Police in Bahawalpur registered a case after an 11-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted in village 25/BC, within the jurisdiction of Baghdadul Jadid Police Station.
According to the police spokesperson, an FIR (No. 1688/25) has been lodged under Section 376 PPC on the complaint of the victim’s father. The suspect fled the scene but left evidence behind.
District Police Officer Muhammad Hassan Iqbal has formed a special team to arrest the accused.
Bahawalpur: Suspect Injured in Encounter
The Bahawalpur Crime Control Department (CCD) claimed to have arrested a suspected criminal after an encounter on the Northern Bypass near Judge Wali Puli on Jhangiwali Road.
Officials said a CCD team intercepted two men on a motorcycle, who opened fire on the police. In the crossfire, one suspect, identified as Ghulam Abbas alias Babar Arian, was injured, while his accomplice managed to escape.
Police recovered a snatched mobile phone from the suspect and said he was wanted in six different cases. A case has been registered against both men for attacking law enforcement officers.
