Gleyber Torres Walks in 10th to Give Detroit Tigers 1-0 Win Over Astros
Detroit, MI: Gleyber Torres drew a 10th-inning walk to bring home Wenceel Pérez and secure a 1-0 victory for the Detroit Tigers over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, marking the Astros’ third straight shutout loss.
Pérez, the automatic runner on second, advanced to third on Andy Ibáñez’s fly to deep right. Kaleb Ort intentionally walked Dillon Dingler and then struck out Javier Báez for the second out. Jahmai Jones walked to load the bases before Torres’ walk, giving him his 500th career RBI.
Reliever Will Vest (6-2) pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit to close out the game.
Pitching Duel Highlights
The game featured a marquee pitching matchup between Tigers ace Tarik Skubal and Detroit native, All-Star Hunter Brown. Both pitchers combined for 13 scoreless innings, giving up eight hits. Skubal struck out 10 in seven innings, becoming the first pitcher in 2025 to reach 200 strikeouts.
The Tigers threatened early, putting runners on the corners with one out in the third, but Christian Walker turned a clutch double play to end the inning. In the fifth, Zach McKinstry led off with his ninth triple, but Brown escaped unscathed with a groundout, strikeout, and fly out.
The game’s start was delayed 35 minutes due to rain, but both teams delivered a tightly contested battle, with Detroit coming out on top in dramatic fashion.
