Japan, Venezuela and Chinese Taipei Qualify for 2027 Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals

Japan, Venezuela and hosts Chinese Taipei have secured their places in the 2027 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals after completing the group-stage campaign in Tainan.
The final day of the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Group Tainan 2026 featured several important games, with the three teams ultimately earning qualification for next year’s Finals in Rockford.
Japan Finish Group Stage With Perfect Record
Japan produced the strongest performance of the group stage, finishing with a perfect 5-0 record.
The world No. 1 team confirmed its place in the Finals after defeating Cuba 13-0. Japan dominated from the beginning, scoring once in the opening inning before adding 10 runs in the second.
Pitcher Miyu Shimizu once again delivered an outstanding performance, keeping Cuba scoreless as Japan continued its unbeaten run.
Japan later completed the group stage with another convincing victory, defeating Chinese Taipei 11-2.
The result gave Japan five wins from five games and made them the first team from the Tainan group to secure qualification for the 2027 Finals.
Venezuela Also Book Finals Spot
Venezuela joined Japan after recording an impressive campaign in Tainan.
The South American side defeated the Philippines 10-0, securing its place in next year’s Finals.
Venezuela made a strong start and built a comfortable advantage early in the game. The Philippines struggled to produce an effective response, managing only four hits against Venezuela’s pitching.
The victory strengthened Venezuela’s position and confirmed its qualification for the 2027 tournament.
Chinese Taipei Delight Home Supporters
Hosts Chinese Taipei claimed the third qualification place after a strong finish to the group stage.
Chinese Taipei defeated the Philippines 8-2 in an important game after quickly establishing a four-run lead in the opening inning.
The Philippines fought back with two runs in the fifth inning, but Chinese Taipei maintained control to secure its second victory of the tournament.
The hosts then faced Japan, suffering an 11-2 defeat, but their earlier results were enough to keep them in contention for qualification.
Chinese Taipei eventually secured the third and final ticket from the Tainan group, giving the home supporters plenty to celebrate.
Philippines Make Encouraging World Cup Debut
The Philippines were among the positive stories of the tournament.
Playing in their first-ever Baseball World Cup, the team earned its historic first victory at the global event against Cuba.
They followed that result by defeating Great Britain 6-2, finishing the group stage with a respectable 2-3 record.
The experience is expected to provide valuable international exposure for the developing Philippine women’s baseball programme.
Cuba and Great Britain Gain Valuable Experience
Cuba finished the group stage with a 1-4 record, while Great Britain ended its first Baseball World Cup appearance without a win.
Great Britain and Cuba met on the final day, with Cuba claiming a 7-4 victory.
Although Great Britain could not secure a win, its participation marked an important step for the team on the international stage.
Mariana Natera Named Tournament’s Outstanding Player
Venezuela’s Mariana Natera was recognised as the Most Outstanding Player of the Tainan group.
Natera impressed throughout the tournament with her batting performance, leading the competition with a .750 batting average and a .769 on-base percentage.
Her contribution played an important role in Venezuela’s successful qualification campaign.
2027 Finals Await
With Japan, Venezuela and Chinese Taipei through to the Finals, attention now turns toward the 2027 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals in Rockford.
Japan’s perfect record makes them one of the early teams to watch, while Venezuela and Chinese Taipei will also carry confidence into the next stage.
The Tainan group also highlighted the growing international reach of women’s baseball, with teams such as the Philippines and Great Britain gaining valuable experience at the highest level.
