Punjab Seals 1,415 Unauthorised Treatment Centres in Province-Wide Drive
Punjab Healthcare Commission conducts thousands of inspections as part of efforts to improve healthcare standards
The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has sealed 1,415 treatment centres across the province during a six-week campaign aimed at preventing unauthorised and unsafe medical practices.
According to the commission, its Anti-Quackery Department carried out 6,380 raids and inspections across Punjab as part of the enforcement campaign.
The operation resulted in the closure of 1,153 treatment centres that were found to be operating without the required authorisation or under unsafe conditions.
Details of the Inspections
The commission also reviewed several categories of facilities during the campaign. These included 72 centres that had previously been sealed, 43 locations revisited after earlier closure, and 62 premises that had been abandoned or vacated by unauthorised practitioners.
Officials also reported 118 cases involving tampering with official seals, along with 10 unregistered treatment centres and four facilities that had already been sealed by district health authorities.
According to a PHC spokesperson, inspection teams found 143 centres being operated by qualified healthcare practitioners during the visits.
Thousands of Centres Under Monitoring
The Punjab Healthcare Commission has placed 4,068 treatment centres under surveillance to help ensure that healthcare services are provided by qualified and legally authorised practitioners.
The enforcement campaign also found that 376 centres had either closed, moved to other locations or changed their businesses following action by the commission.
The PHC said such inspections are part of its ongoing efforts to promote compliance with healthcare regulations and improve patient safety across Punjab.
