Chelsea Edge Brighton 4-3 in Seven-Goal Premier League Match

Chelsea defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 4-3 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in an entertaining Premier League encounter, giving manager Xabi Alonso a second consecutive league victory.
Chelsea’s attacking players again made the difference as Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer found the net, while Pedro Neto also scored for the home side. Brighton mounted a strong response but could not complete the comeback.
The victory means Chelsea have collected six points from their first two league matches under Alonso.
Chelsea Continue Strong Start Under Alonso
Alonso began his Chelsea league tenure with a 3-2 victory away at Fulham. Chelsea followed that result with another high-scoring performance against Brighton.
Joao Pedro was among the key players once again, while Palmer also continued his positive start to the campaign.
New goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez made his Chelsea debut after completing his move from Aston Villa. He became the first player aged over 30 to start a league match for Chelsea in more than two years.
Martinez said his ambition was to compete for the Premier League title and highlighted the quality of Chelsea’s attacking players.
Meanwhile, Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez was not included in the matchday plans amid continued transfer speculation before the deadline.
Chelsea are now one of only three teams, alongside Manchester City and Hull City, to have won their opening two league games.
Leeds United Earn Point Against Brentford
Brentford were unable to maintain their perfect start after being held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United.
Kevin Schade gave Brentford the lead with an inventive finish, putting the visitors in control during the opening stages.
Leeds responded in the second half, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin converting Lukas Nmecha’s cross to level the match.
The result leaves Leeds unbeaten after their first two matches of the new Premier League campaign.
Sunderland Secure First Win
Sunderland also claimed their first victory of the season, defeating Fulham 1-0.
Wilson Isidor scored the decisive goal 15 minutes before full time, giving Sunderland all three points.
Newcastle Defeat Tottenham
Newcastle United added to Tottenham Hotspur’s difficult start to the season with a 2-0 victory in Saturday’s late fixture.
Anthony Elanga opened the scoring in the 62nd minute before Yoane Wissa doubled Newcastle’s advantage 10 minutes later.
The defeat increased pressure on Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, whose side had also lost 3-0 to Brentford in their opening league match.
Tottenham have made significant changes to their squad during the summer, spending more than £300 million as they look to recover from last season’s struggles.
The club have now lost their first two league matches without scoring for only the third time in their history, with the previous occurrence coming in the 1974-75 season.
Despite the disappointing results, De Zerbi said he remained confident in the team’s long-term plan and called for greater effort and understanding among the players.
