The women’s softball tournament at the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 got underway with four teams securing opening-day victories. Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Mexico, and host nation Dominican Republic all began their campaigns with impressive performances.

Women’s softball, men’s softball, and men’s baseball are among the sports featured in the Santo Domingo 2026 competition schedule.

Puerto Rico Starts with Run-Rule Victory

Puerto Rico made a strong start by defeating Guatemala 15-0 in a four-inning contest under the run-rule.

The team broke the game open with seven runs in the second inning before adding eight more in the fourth. Puerto Rico’s pitching staff combined to allow just one hit while recording 10 strikeouts.

On offense, Janelle Martinez Garcia led the way with a three-run home run, helping Puerto Rico earn the tournament’s first run-rule victory.

US Virgin Islands Blank Cuba

The US Virgin Islands followed with a 7-0 victory over Cuba.

A four-run first inning gave the team an early advantage before additional runs in the fifth and seventh innings secured the win.

Emily Legette contributed three hits and three RBIs, while Jana Cooper added a two-run home run. Pitchers Alexis Handley and Courtney Wyche combined to limit Cuba to four hits while striking out seven batters.

Mexico Shuts Out El Salvador

Mexico continued the day’s strong pitching displays with a 6-0 win over El Salvador.

Pitchers Lindsay Lopez and Yanina Treviño combined on a one-hit performance. Lopez struck out eight batters over six scoreless innings before Treviño completed the game.

At the plate, Stephanie Vizcarra collected three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs as Mexico scored consistently throughout the contest.

Dominican Republic Delights Home Fans

Host nation Dominican Republic completed the opening day’s schedule with a 10-2 victory over Venezuela in six innings under the run-rule.

Pitcher Ace Gómez earned the win after allowing two runs over six innings, while the Dominican offense produced 11 hits.

Arianny Rijo scored two runs and drove in two more as the hosts secured an impressive opening victory.

Strong Start to the Tournament

Following the opening day of competition, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic each recorded victories to move to the top of the early standings.

The tournament continues with more group-stage games as teams compete for a place in the medal rounds of the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.
