ECC Approves Major Relief Measures for Power Consumers, PTV, and Flood Victims
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), chaired by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has approved several key decisions aimed at providing financial relief and boosting national projects.
Relief for Electricity Consumers
The ECC has introduced a new mechanism to transfer the benefit of levies collected from captive power producers directly to national grid consumers. This step will help reduce electricity costs for households and businesses.
Grant for Pakistan Television (PTV)
A supplementary grant of Rs. 3.813 billion has been approved for Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) to cover tariff adjustments, net metering, salaries, pensions, and other expenses. The remaining funds from the Rs. 11 billion request will be released on a quarterly basis.
The committee urged PTV to reduce dependence on government bailouts and move towards financial self-reliance.
Petroleum Levy Recovery from Cnergyico
The ECC approved a settlement framework to recover the petroleum levy defaulted by Cnergyico PK Limited (CPL) since 2019. The Petroleum Division will now proceed with a deed of settlement to ensure full recovery under strict terms.
White Oil Pipeline Project
The committee also endorsed tariff terms for the Machike-Thallian Tarrujabba White Oil Pipeline project, being developed in collaboration with Azerbaijan. This strategic project is expected to strengthen bilateral trade and investment.
Flood Relief for Gilgit-Baltistan
In line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives, the ECC approved Rs. 3 billion in emergency relief for flood-affected areas of Gilgit-Baltistan. The funds will be used for tents, medicines, food supplies, and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, ensuring quick recovery for affected communities.
