Islamabad to Host World Masters Weightlifting Championship in February 2026

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is set to make history as Islamabad prepares to host the World Masters Weightlifting Championship in February next year. The prestigious event is expected to attract over 500 athletes from all seven continents, showcasing top talent from across the globe.

According to the Pakistan Masters Weightlifting Association (PMWA), the World Masters will be organized under the “Grand Prix” banner, alongside the Asian Masters Championship. Both men’s and women’s competitions will be featured, making it one of the most inclusive and significant sporting events in the country’s history.

“This is a great honour for Pakistan and recognition of our consistent achievements at the Masters level,” said PMWA President Arshad Khan. “Hosting these championships will further boost Pakistan’s reputation as a strong destination for international sports.”

To ensure smooth arrangements, a five-member delegation of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) will visit Islamabad from September 9 to 12 to inspect venues and review preparations.

Sports enthusiasts and fans are eagerly waiting, as this championship promises not only thrilling weightlifting action but also an opportunity for Pakistan to shine on the global stage.
