Rain Warnings for Punjab
Parts of Punjab, already affected by severe floods, are expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next few days, starting today.
This forecast comes after heavy rains in Karachi last month, which caused urban flooding, disrupted traffic on main roads like Sharea Faisal, University Road, and I.I. Chundrigar Road, and resulted in at least 10 casualties due to electrocution, drowning, and wall collapses.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a rain alert for several regions, warning of possible urban flooding in Karachi from August 30 to September 2.
Pakistan is facing ongoing monsoon challenges, with flash floods, swollen rivers, and overfilled dams leading to more than 800 deaths since late June. Meanwhile, India’s release of excess water from dams is increasing river flows downstream in Punjab, adding to the flood risk.
Residents are advised to stay alert, avoid waterlogged areas, and follow local safety guidelines as the monsoon season continues.
