Bangladesh Announces 500 Scholarships for Pakistani Students

Bangladesh has unveiled 500 new scholarships for outstanding Pakistani students, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The announcement was made during a meeting in Lahore between Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Bangladesh’s Minister for Religious Affairs, Dr. Khalid Hussain. PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, H.E. MD Iqbal Hussain Khan, were also present.

Maryam Nawaz praised Bangladesh’s progress in the garment industry, microfinance, and women’s empowerment, calling them key drivers of social development. She expressed Punjab’s interest in collaborating with Bangladesh in green energy, flood management, and sustainable agriculture, highlighting efforts to build a stronger regional partnership.

Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif emphasized the longstanding bond between the people of Pakistan and Bangladesh, recalling the legacy of national hero MM Alam. He lauded Bangladesh’s economic growth and commitment to public welfare, stressing the need for closer cooperation.

Dr. Khalid Hussain appreciated the Nawaz family’s contributions, commended CM Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, and reaffirmed Dhaka’s commitment to deepening ties with Islamabad.

High Commissioner MD Iqbal Hussain highlighted Nawaz Sharif’s role in Pakistan’s nuclear program and noted the respect Bangladesh’s younger generation holds for him. He also praised Maryam Nawaz’s welfare initiatives, describing them as beneficial for the people of Punjab.
