60th Jockey Club Open Polo: Semifinal Lineup Confirmed in Argentina
The Argentine Association of Polo (AAP) Headquarters in Pilar hosted the final league games of the 60th Jockey Club Open, the prestigious tournament that leads up to Argentina’s Triple Crown. This year’s competition features six teams with up to 33 goals in handicap.
Adding to the excitement, the qualification day coincided with the AAP’s 103rd anniversary celebrations on Sunday, September 14.
Kazak Secures Semifinal Spot
In the first match of the day, La Irenita faced Kazak. The French-based Kazak team, which recently reached the semifinals of the Open de France, was determined to replicate its success in Argentina.
Led by Lorenzo Chavanne, who scored nine goals, Kazak defeated La Irenita 13-10, earning their ticket to the semifinals. This result also secured Pilot’s spot in the next stage.
Scone Triumphs Over La Aguada
The second clash featured Scone against La Aguada, with both teams desperate for a win after opening losses to La Hache.
The match was fiercely contested. Just as Scone’s win seemed certain, La Aguada mounted a late comeback, narrowing the gap to one goal with less than a minute left. But Scone’s rising star Poroto Cambiaso sealed the game in dramatic fashion, scoring twice in the dying seconds to give his team a 15-13 victory and the last semifinal spot.
