Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed Breaks Into ICC Top Five T20I Bowlers Rankings
Pakistan’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed has been one of the standout performers of the ongoing Asia Cup, and his impressive form has now earned him a place among the top five bowlers in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings for the very first time.
The 26-year-old has climbed to No. 4 in the latest update, reaching a career-best rating of 703 points after a brilliant performance against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi. Known for his accuracy and ability to deceive batters under pressure, Abrar has quickly become one of Pakistan’s most reliable weapons in the shortest format of the game.
So far in the Asia Cup, Abrar has picked up five wickets in five matches at a remarkable economy rate of just 4.62, highlighting his growing importance in Pakistan’s bowling attack. His rise follows a tradition of Pakistani spinners making their mark on the global stage, with names like Saeed Ajmal, Imad Wasim, and Shadab Khan previously holding prominent spots in the ICC rankings.
Meanwhile, fast bowlers Shaheen Afridi (25th) and Haris Rauf (28th) have improved their positions, while Sufiyan Muqeem (14th) and Mohammad Nawaz (46th) have slipped.
On the batting side, Sahibzada Farhan has made big gains, jumping 34 places to 24th after a string of consistent performances. Salman Ali Agha (64) and Fakhar Zaman (66) also moved up, while Saim Ayub (54), Hasan Nawaz (58), and Mohammad Haris (91) dropped.
In the all-rounders’ rankings, Saim Ayub remains steady at No. 5, followed by Mohammad Nawaz (17th) and Faheem Ashraf (39th).
With more Asia Cup action and plenty of T20I cricket lined up in the coming months, Abrar Ahmed’s rise could just be the beginning of a new chapter for Pakistan cricket. Fans will be hoping he continues to climb higher in the rankings and deliver match-winning spells.
