Anisimova Dominates Gauff to Reach China Open Final, Faces Noskova for Title

 October 5, 2025

BEIJING: American tennis star Amanda Anisimova delivered a stunning performance at the China Open 2025, overpowering defending champion Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-2 in just 58 minutes on Saturday to book her spot in the final against Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic.

Anisimova in Top Form

The third-seeded Anisimova, who was the US Open runner-up last month, showcased her powerful baseline game and composure under pressure to dismantle Gauff’s defenses at the Beijing Olympic Green Tennis Center.

“I felt really good throughout the whole match,” said Anisimova after the victory. “All my shots were working today. Coco’s such a tough player, so I knew I had to raise my level.”

The 24-year-old American is now one win away from claiming her fourth career WTA title, just weeks after recovering from a tooth surgery and admitting she didn’t feel fully match-ready heading into Beijing.

“I actually play better when I’m not feeling my best physically,” Anisimova added. “It takes some pressure off and helps me focus more on my game.”

Gauff Struggles to Find Rhythm

Gauff, the reigning French Open champion, had a difficult day on court. The 21-year-old made a series of unforced errors, allowing Anisimova to race into a 5-0 lead in both sets. Despite fighting back late in the match, Gauff couldn’t regain control.

“She’s definitely one of the best,” Gauff admitted. “I would’ve liked to play better today, but it’s a learning experience.”

The defeat marked only Gauff’s second career loss on Beijing’s Diamond Court, the first coming in 2023 against Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals.

Noskova Stuns Pegula in Thriller

In the day’s other semi-final, 26th seed Linda Noskova produced a remarkable comeback to upset fifth seed Jessica Pegula 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (8-6) in a match that lasted two hours and 28 minutes.

Noskova saved three match points before closing out the contest in a dramatic tiebreak, earning her a place in the biggest final of her career.

“It was just two points away from either of us winning,” said the 20-year-old Czech. “I’m really happy I managed to stay calm and pull through.”

Final Showdown Awaits

Anisimova will now face Noskova in Sunday’s China Open final, as both players look to make history — Anisimova seeking redemption after her US Open loss, and Noskova chasing her first major WTA title.
