Hertl’s Late Goal Helps Vegas Golden Knights Edge Hurricanes in Stanley Cup Final Opener

The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4 in a closely contested Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final in Raleigh, taking an early lead in the best-of-seven series.

The match began at a high pace, with the Hurricanes scoring quickly and building an early two-goal advantage in the opening period. However, the Golden Knights gradually recovered and responded with steady attacking play to stay in the contest.

By the middle stages of the game, both teams were trading goals in an intense and balanced contest in front of a strong home crowd.

The decisive moment came late in the third period when Tomas Hertl scored with 3:24 remaining. He finished a backhand pass from teammate Colton Sissons to give Vegas a 5-4 lead, which they held until the final whistle.

The goal proved to be the winner in a tightly fought match that featured multiple lead changes and strong performances from both sides.

Following the game, Vegas coach John Tortorella described the match as a competitive playoff encounter where the team focused on finding a way to secure the result despite early pressure.

With the win, the Golden Knights take a 1-0 lead in the series and also gain home-ice advantage. Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final is scheduled to take place in Raleigh.

The Hurricanes will look to bounce back as the series continues, while the Golden Knights aim to build on their momentum in pursuit of another championship title.
