Morocco Suffer Double Injury Blow Ahead of World Cup Campaign
Morocco has been dealt a setback ahead of the FIFA World Cup after two key players, including winger Abde Ezzalzouli, were ruled out due to injuries.
According to FIFA, Ezzalzouli and defender Nayef Aguerd have both been withdrawn from the squad ahead of Morocco’s opening match against Brazil.
Injury Updates and Replacements
Ezzalzouli, who plays for Real Betis, sustained a right knee injury during a warm-up match against Norway. Initial reports had suggested he could remain part of the squad for potential later-stage involvement, but further assessments led to his withdrawal.
Aguerd, a key defender for Marseille and an important member of Morocco’s 2022 World Cup semifinal squad, has also been ruled out.
They have been replaced by Amine Sbaï of Angers and Marwane Saadane, who plays for Al Fateh in Saudi Arabia.
Group Stage Schedule
Morocco will begin its World Cup campaign against Brazil at MetLife Stadium near New York. The team will then face Scotland in Boston on June 19, followed by their final Group C match against Haiti in Atlanta on June 24.
Outlook
The double injury setback is a concern for Morocco as the team prepares for a challenging group stage. However, the squad will look to adjust quickly as they aim to progress in the tournament despite missing two important players.
