Oklahoma Wins First National Baseball Championship Since 1994
OMAHA, Nebraska — Oklahoma claimed its first national baseball championship in more than three decades after defeating North Carolina 13-2 in the deciding game of the College World Series finals on Monday.
The victory marked Oklahoma’s first national title since 1994 and extended the Southeastern Conference’s championship streak to seven consecutive seasons.
The Sooners delivered a strong all-around performance, combining timely hitting with effective pitching to secure the championship. Jaxon Willits, who was named the College World Series Most Outstanding Player, credited the team’s belief and resilience throughout the season.
“We knew the talent was there,” Willits said after the game. “Things came together at the right time, and we’re proud to finish the season as national champions.”
Oklahoma concluded the season with a 43-23 record. The championship run was particularly notable given the team’s challenging regular season, during which it was projected to finish near the bottom of the conference standings and entered postseason play after a difficult stretch of results.
The Sooners’ road to the title included victories over several highly ranked opponents. They defeated Georgia Tech in the regional round, swept Kansas in the super regionals, and earned two wins over Georgia in College World Series bracket play before overcoming North Carolina in the championship series.
The title adds another milestone to Oklahoma’s baseball history and caps off a memorable postseason campaign for the program.
