Report : Imran Sohal
The WTT United States Smash 2026 is set to bring many of the world’s leading table tennis players to Ontario, California, from June 26 to July 5, as the sport continues its build-up toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
As the second Grand Smash event of the season, the tournament is expected to feature a highly competitive field, with most of the world’s top-ranked men’s and women’s singles players scheduled to participate.
Defending men’s singles champion Wang Chuqin of China will enter the event as the top seed, while Zhu Yuling of Macao, China, returns as the defending women’s singles champion and one of the tournament favorites.
The men’s competition is expected to be particularly competitive, with several international stars aiming to challenge for the title. Players such as Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto, France’s Félix Lebrun, and Brazil’s Hugo Calderano will be among the leading contenders.
Another athlete to watch is Sweden’s Truls Möregårdh, who made history by becoming the first non-Chinese men’s singles player to win a Grand Smash title when he claimed victory at Europe Smash Sweden 2025.
China remains a dominant force in the women’s game, with several of the world’s highest-ranked players expected to compete in Ontario.
Host nation United States will also have local representation, led by Kanak Jha in the men’s singles competition and Lily Zhang and Amy Wang in the women’s draw.
