South Korea’s Ina Yoon strengthened her position at the top of the leaderboard after the second round of the Women’s PGA Championship, opening up a five-shot advantage at Hazeltine National Golf Club on Friday.

The 23-year-old followed her record-breaking opening-round 63 with a steady 3-under-par 69, taking her overall score to 12-under for the tournament. Yoon is now in an excellent position as she chases her first LPGA Tour title.

Despite recording two bogeys on the back nine, Yoon remained composed and added key birdies to maintain a comfortable lead heading into the weekend.

Looking ahead to the final two rounds, Yoon admitted there will be pressure but said she is focused on staying calm and concentrating on each shot.

A group of four players share second place, including Japan’s Nasa Hataoka, Canada’s Brooke Henderson, and South Koreans A Lim Kim and Hae Ran Ryu.

Ryu produced the best round of the day with an impressive 8-under 64, while Henderson finished strongly by making three consecutive birdies to post a 68. Hataoka carded a 67, and Kim signed for an even-par 70.

Although the chasing group trails by five strokes, Henderson believes there is still plenty of golf left to play.

The former Women’s PGA Championship winner said she has been pleased with her overall performance and hopes to make more birdies over the weekend to close the gap.

With two rounds remaining, Yoon remains the player to beat as she looks to convert her impressive form into a maiden major championship victory on the LPGA Tour.
