Apple Intelligence Receives Regulatory Approval in China

Apple Intelligence has cleared an important regulatory requirement in China, allowing Apple to move closer to introducing its AI-powered features in the country.

According to reports, the service has been registered with China’s cyberspace regulator, a mandatory step for generative artificial intelligence products before they can be made available to users. Apple has not yet announced an official launch date for the Chinese market.

Regulatory Approval Marks Key Milestone

Apple Intelligence was introduced in several international markets earlier, but it has not been available in China due to local regulatory requirements.

With regulatory approval now in place, Apple is permitted to proceed with the rollout, although the company has not confirmed when the service will become available to customers in China.

Local AI Partners to Support the Service

Reports indicate that the Chinese version of Apple Intelligence will use AI technology developed by local companies to comply with the country’s regulations.

Alibaba has confirmed that its Qwen large language model will be integrated into Apple Intelligence across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS for users in China. Baidu has also confirmed that it is collaborating with Apple to develop AI features for Chinese users.

Why Apple Is Working With Chinese Companies

China requires generative AI services to receive regulatory approval before they can be launched publicly.

To meet these requirements, Apple has partnered with approved domestic technology companies for its AI services in China, enabling the company to comply with local regulations while expanding the availability of Apple Intelligence.

Launch Date Yet to Be Announced

Although regulatory approval has been granted, Apple Intelligence is not yet available to users in China.

Neither the Chinese regulator nor Apple has announced an official release date for iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Vision Pro users in the country. Apple is expected to share further details when the rollout schedule is finalized.
