Punjab Government Announces New Student Support and School Development Initiatives
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced several education-focused initiatives, including plans to distribute 100,000 electric bikes, 100,000 laptops, and 50,000 merit-based scholarships for students across the province.
The announcements were made during a ceremony in Arifwala, where the chief minister outlined the government’s plans to improve educational facilities and expand student support programs.
Electric Bikes and Student Assistance Programs
According to the announcement, the Punjab government plans to:
- Distribute 100,000 electric bikes to eligible students.
- Provide 100,000 laptops to support digital learning.
- Award 50,000 merit-based scholarships to students based on academic performance.
The government said these initiatives are aimed at improving access to education and supporting students in their academic journey.
Investment in Government Schools
The chief minister said the Punjab government has allocated Rs. 40 billion to upgrade government schools across the province.
The planned improvements include:
- Construction of new classrooms
- Provision of classroom furniture
- Installation of clean drinking water facilities
- Upgraded washrooms
- Ceiling fans and other basic infrastructure
In addition, schools will be equipped with laboratories for science, technology, computer education, information technology (IT), and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance students’ learning opportunities.
New Schools and Public Transport Expansion
Maryam Nawaz also announced plans to establish Nawaz Sharif Schools in tehsils across Punjab and develop 300 modern schools as part of the province’s education expansion strategy.
She added that the government is continuing to expand the Green Electric Bus network to improve public transportation and make travel more convenient for students and commuters.
Public Safety During Monsoon Season
During her address, the chief minister also encouraged parents to remain cautious during the ongoing rainy season and advised them to keep children away from areas that may become hazardous during heavy rainfall.
The initiatives are part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure, improve learning facilities, and expand student support services throughout the province.
