US-Iran Conflict Enters Ninth Day as Strait of Hormuz Security Concerns Grow
The military confrontation between the United States and Iran entered its ninth consecutive day on Monday, with both sides reporting new operations and renewed concerns over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces carried out strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure, including command centers, air defense systems, coastal surveillance facilities, missile and drone launch sites, maritime capabilities, and communication networks. US officials said the operations were aimed at reducing threats to commercial shipping and civilian vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian media reported explosions in several cities, including Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak, Bandar Mahshahr, and Bandar Imam Khomeini, following the reported strikes.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington would continue military operations as long as it believed commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz faced security threats. He also stated that the United States remains open to pursuing a diplomatic solution to reduce tensions.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had carried out military operations targeting US-related positions in the region. Iranian state media also reported drone and missile attacks involving locations associated with US military assets.
Regional tensions also affected neighboring countries. Kuwaiti authorities reported damage to a desalination facility following an attack, describing it as an incident involving civilian infrastructure.
The security situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains a major concern for global energy markets. Iranian officials claimed that two oil tankers were damaged while attempting to pass through the waterway, although independent verification and detailed information about the vessels were not immediately available.
Maritime monitoring organizations reported a decline in commercial vessel traffic through the strategic shipping route compared with previous days, reflecting growing caution among shipping operators.
Global oil markets reacted to the continued instability, with crude oil prices rising by around 2 percent to above $90 per barrel amid concerns about potential disruptions to energy supplies.
The US military also confirmed the death of a service member during an operation in northern Iraq involving the disposal of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian drone. US officials added that investigations into other reported casualties are continuing.
The latest developments highlight the continuing military escalation between the United States and Iran, while international observers continue to call for diplomatic efforts to prevent further regional instability and protect global trade routes.
