England Defeat France 6-4 to Secure Third Place at FIFA World Cup 2026

England claimed third place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with an entertaining 6-4 victory over France in a high-scoring playoff match.

Both teams entered the contest hoping to end their World Cup campaigns on a positive note after falling short in the semi-finals. England had been eliminated by Argentina, while France were defeated by Spain.

England made a dream start, taking the lead in the third minute through Declan Rice before Ezri Konsa doubled the advantage with a headed goal. Bukayo Saka then produced an outstanding first-half display, scoring twice to give England a commanding 4-0 lead before halftime.

Despite France’s resurgence, England remained composed. Bukayo Saka completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot, while Jude Bellingham added another goal late in the match to seal the victory in a thrilling encounter.

Saka’s three-goal performance was one of the highlights of the playoff, while England’s attacking display helped secure their highest World Cup finish since winning the tournament in 1966.

For France, the match marked the end of another memorable World Cup campaign. Head coach Didier Deschamps concluded his tenure after guiding the national team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup title, the 2022 final, and another deep run in 2026.

England’s third-place finish provides a positive foundation for the future, while France can take encouragement from another competitive tournament despite narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
