KP to Conduct Safety Inspections of Tourist Boats Following Recent Incidents

The district administration in Upper Swat has announced a comprehensive inspection of boats operating at tourist destinations to strengthen safety measures following recent boating incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to officials, the inspection campaign will evaluate whether boats meet the required safety standards and are suitable for passenger transport. Boats that do not comply with the prescribed safety requirements or are found unfit during inspections will not be permitted to operate.

Authorities said all boats operating at tourist sites across Upper Swat will undergo checks to assess their fitness, maintenance, and operational condition as part of efforts to improve visitor safety.

As part of the initiative, the administration has also started the registration process for boating services at Mahodand Lake. Officials stated that all boat operators must obtain a valid No Objection Certificate (NOC) before providing services to tourists.

The district administration is collecting records and required documentation from boating operators. The information will be reviewed by the Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO), who will verify compliance with relevant regulations before issuing NOCs.

Officials said the measures are intended to enhance safety standards for boating activities at Mahodand Lake and other tourist destinations while ensuring operators comply with applicable legal and safety requirements.

The inspection and registration drive is part of broader efforts to promote safer tourism and reduce the risk of boating-related incidents in the region.
