Government Directs Telecom Operators to Maintain Mobile Services During Monsoon

The federal government has announced measures to help maintain reliable mobile and telecom services across Pakistan during the ongoing monsoon season.

According to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, all mobile network operators have been instructed to keep telecom services operational and strengthen the security of their networks and infrastructure throughout the period of heavy rainfall.

Emergency Response Centres Activated

Officials said emergency 1122 response centres have been activated across all four provinces to facilitate timely assistance during weather-related emergencies.

The provincial emergency centres will remain connected with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) control centre to improve coordination during floods and other emergency situations.

Focus on Reliable Emergency Communication

According to ministry sources, emergency calls received through 1122 during floods or other natural disasters will be handled through the established emergency response system.

Provincial emergency centres will also coordinate with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to help ensure stable telecom connectivity for emergency response operations.

Performance During Previous Monsoon Season

The Ministry of IT said that during last year’s floods and severe weather events, the national emergency response system received approximately 27.8 million emergency calls.

Officials added that only a small percentage of telecom sites were affected despite the challenging conditions, and the majority of impacted sites were restored within one month.

Government Reaffirms Commitment

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication said it will continue working with telecom operators and relevant authorities to support uninterrupted communication services during the current monsoon season.

Officials emphasized that maintaining reliable mobile connectivity is important for public communication, emergency response, and disaster management during periods of severe weather.
