Over 2.1 Million Smart Electricity Meters Installed Across Pakistan

Pakistan has installed more than 2.1 million smart electricity meters across various power distribution companies, according to a written response submitted by the Ministry of Energy to the Senate.

The ministry reported that 2,125,296 smart meters have been installed across the country’s electricity distribution network.

LESCO Leads Smart Meter Installations

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has recorded the highest number of installations, with 1,153,556 smart meters installed.

Other major distribution companies reported the following figures:

  • MEPCO: 229,719
  • IESCO: 119,372
  • FESCO: 111,948
  • PESCO: 60,685
  • K-Electric: 50,599
  • HESCO: 19,620
  • SEPCO: 13,432
  • QESCO: 9,194
  • HAZECO: 7,659
  • TESCO: 1,377

The figures were shared by the Ministry of Energy in response to a question raised in the Senate regarding the nationwide rollout of smart electricity meters.

Smart Meter Rollout Expands

Smart meters are being introduced across Pakistan’s electricity distribution network as part of efforts to modernize metering and improve the monitoring of electricity consumption.

The latest figures show that LESCO accounts for more than half of the total smart meters installed nationwide, while several other distribution companies have also made progress in expanding the technology.

The ministry’s data provides an overview of the current smart meter rollout across the country’s major electricity distribution companies.
