Punjab Government Proposes New Force to Collect Sanitation Charges
The Punjab government has proposed establishing a dedicated force under the Excise and Taxation Department to improve the collection of sanitation charges across the province.
According to reports citing official documents, the proposal includes the creation of 305 new positions within the department. Of these, 300 would be Excise and Taxation Constable posts in Grade 5.
Force to Cover Millions of Properties
The proposed team would be responsible for collecting sanitation charges from approximately 4.7 million properties across Punjab.
Officials have suggested assigning around seven to eight constables to each district. Their responsibilities would include delivering sanitation charge bills, contacting individuals with outstanding payments and recovering overdue amounts.
The force would operate under the Suthra Punjab Program and work under the supervision of the Director General of Excise and Taxation.
Supervisory Posts Included in Plan
The proposal also calls for the appointment of one director and four deputy directors to oversee the new force and monitor its operations.
The additional supervisory structure is intended to support the field teams and improve coordination of sanitation charge collection activities across different districts.
Electric Motorcycles and Vehicles Planned
To support field operations, officials have proposed purchasing 300 electric motorcycles for the newly planned workforce.
The plan also includes one 1,300cc vehicle and four Suzuki Cultus cars for monitoring, supervision and other official duties.
According to the documents, the government has requested around Rs. 113 million for the purchase of the motorcycles and five vehicles.
Officials are also considering a supplementary grant to cover salaries and other operational expenses associated with the proposed positions and vehicles.
