Fire Erupts at Lahore General Hospital, Around 70 Evacuated

A fire broke out in the gynecology ward of Lahore General Hospital (LGH) on Monday, prompting the evacuation of around 70 people, including pregnant women.

The incident caused panic among patients, attendants, and hospital staff as smoke quickly spread through parts of the affected ward. Emergency teams responded promptly and brought the fire under control.

Initial reports indicate that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit in electrical wiring installed in the ceiling of the hospital building. The incident occurred while patients and their attendants were present in the ward.

As a precaution, hospital authorities evacuated approximately 70 people from the affected building and moved them to a safer location. The timely evacuation helped prevent the situation from becoming more serious.

No major injuries were reported. However, a security guard experienced breathing difficulties after reportedly inhaling smoke. He was taken to the emergency department, where he received medical attention.

Hospital authorities later confirmed that the guard was out of danger.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of effective fire prevention and emergency response systems at public hospitals.

The Lahore hospital fire occurred only days after a separate fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. The August 26 incident occurred in the Mother and Child Health ward and resulted in the deaths of 14 newborns.

The latest incident at LGH is expected to draw renewed attention to fire safety measures, electrical systems, evacuation procedures, and emergency preparedness at major healthcare facilities.
