Sindh Police Prohibits Constables from Serving as SHOs

Sindh Police has issued a fresh directive prohibiting the appointment of constables as Station House Officers (SHOs) across the province.

The circular was issued on the instructions of Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho and signed by Additional Inspector General of Police (Operations) Sindh Bashir Ahmed Brohi.

According to the directive, constables must not be appointed or posted as SHOs at any police station in the province going forward.

Fresh Directive Issued After Earlier Instructions

The latest circular noted that similar instructions had already been issued on May 7, 2026. However, authorities observed that personnel who were not authorized to hold the SHO position were still being assigned to the role at some police stations.

The new instructions have therefore reiterated the requirement for police authorities to follow the prescribed rules when making SHO appointments.

The circular also raised concerns about the appointment of constables, head constables, assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), and traffic constables as SHOs.

Police Officials Asked to Follow Rules

According to Sindh Police, appointing personnel who are not eligible for the position is contrary to relevant police laws, regulations, departmental rules, and established procedures.

The department said following the prescribed command structure is important for maintaining administrative oversight, accountability, discipline, and effective management within the police force.

Police authorities across Sindh have been directed to ensure that future SHO appointments comply with the applicable rules and departmental procedures.
