Swabi Court Sentences ASI to Death in Case Involving Two Brothers

A local court in Swabi has sentenced an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) to death on two counts in a case involving the deaths of two brothers.

Additional Sessions Judge Swabi Mushtaq Ahmad Khan announced the verdict against police official Ijaz Khan on Monday.

According to the case details, the incident occurred on June 24, 2024, in Karnal Sher Khan village following a dispute reportedly linked to the ownership of a mine. The accused was alleged to have opened fire during the altercation, resulting in the deaths of two brothers and injuries to three other people.

The court awarded a separate death sentence for each of the two murder charges. However, the verdict noted that the death sentences will require confirmation by the Peshawar High Court in accordance with the law.

Compensation Ordered for Victims’ Families

The court also ordered the convict to pay Rs1 million in compensation to the legal heirs of each deceased person.

The verdict stated that failure to pay the compensation would result in six months of simple imprisonment.

In addition to the two death sentences, the court convicted Ijaz Khan under Section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code for injuring three individuals during the incident.

He was sentenced to five years in prison for each of the three injury-related charges and fined Rs50,000 for each offence.

The case will now proceed according to the legal requirements governing confirmation of death sentences by the higher court.
