Misbah-ul-Haq Reportedly Resigns from PCB Selection Committee

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has reportedly resigned from his role on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee following recent changes to the national Test team setup.
According to reports, Misbah submitted his resignation to the PCB via email after concerns emerged over the way player changes were handled during Pakistan’s ongoing Test series against England. He is expected to complete a notice period before formally leaving the committee.
Reported Reason Behind Resignation
Reports suggest that Misbah was unhappy with the decision to send replacement players to England without consulting the selection committee.
Six players were reportedly sent to England to join the squad after several members of the original Test team were released. The development is said to have contributed to Misbah’s decision to step down.
Misbah joined the PCB selection committee in March 2026.
Major Changes to Pakistan’s Test Squad
The reported resignation comes shortly after the PCB made significant changes to Pakistan’s Test setup following defeats in the first two matches of the three-Test series against England.
Seven players and two members of the coaching staff were released ahead of the third Test at Edgbaston, scheduled to begin on September 9.
The players sent back to Pakistan were Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Muhammad Awais Zafar, and Khurram Shahzad.
They were replaced by Saim Ayub, Abdullah Fazal, Mohammad Imran Jr, Saad Baig, Mohammad Imran Randhawa, and Razaullah for the remainder of the England tour.
Changes to Test Coaching Staff
The PCB also made changes to the coaching structure.
Red-ball head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul were released from their positions. White-ball head coach Mike Hesson was given responsibility for the Test team, while Ashley Noffke was appointed as the new bowling coach.
The changes have generated discussion among former players and cricket figures, particularly regarding the timing of the decisions and their potential impact on continuity within Pakistan’s Test setup.
