USA Leads Strong Field in Oklahoma City as Two 2027 Women’s Softball World Cup Spots Go Up for Grabs

The WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Oklahoma City is set to bring together six national teams competing for two direct places in the Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027.
The tournament will be held at Devon Park from September 12 to 16, 2026, with the USA, Netherlands, China, Mexico, Brazil and New Zealand all competing in the final group-stage event of the 2026/2027 World Cup cycle.
The top two teams after the Play-Offs will secure qualification for the 2027 Finals in Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia, while the final Wild Card position will also be determined by the results in Oklahoma City.
Six Teams Competing in Oklahoma City
The six participating nations will complete the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage after earlier group-stage tournaments were held in Prague and Lima.
Each team will play five round-robin games between September 12 and 15. The top four teams will then advance to the Play-Offs on September 16.
The two highest-ranked teams following the Play-Offs will earn direct places at the 2027 World Cup Finals.
Five Teams Already Qualified
Five teams have already secured their places in the 2027 Finals.
Canada and Chinese Taipei advanced from the Prague group, while Japan and Puerto Rico earned qualification from Lima. Australia received the host Wild Card as the country staging the Finals.
The Oklahoma City group will therefore determine the remaining direct qualifiers and the recipient of the final Wild Card.
USA Enters as the Favourite
The United States, ranked No. 2 in the world, will be the leading contender on home soil.

The USA is the most successful team in Women’s Softball World Cup history. The Americans have reached the podium in 16 of their 17 appearances, including 11 championship victories and five runner-up finishes.
However, the USA will enter the upcoming campaign looking to regain the world title after losing the 2024 final to Japan. Japan won the decisive game 6-1 to claim the championship.
Experienced Players Strengthen USA Squad
The American team features experienced players including Olympic medallists Rachel Garcia and Dejah Mulipola.
The USA will be aiming to return to the top of international softball in 2027 while also building toward the LA28 Olympic Games, where the American team will compete as the host nation.
The 2027 World Cup Finals will also have Olympic significance, as the highest-finishing eligible team will earn the first qualification place for the LA28 Olympic tournament.
Montana Fouts Impresses at International Cup
USA pitcher Montana Fouts recently played a key role in the team’s success at the USA Softball International Cup at Devon Park.
Fouts delivered a one-hit shutout in the final as the USA defeated Japan 2-0 to win the tournament. She recorded eight strikeouts, issued no walks and retired 21 of the 22 batters she faced.
The USA pitching staff, consisting of Fouts, Garcia, Lexi Kilfoyl, Kelly Maxwell and Karlyn Pickens, combined for two shutouts and recorded 37 strikeouts during the competition.
Strong Offensive Numbers
The USA also produced impressive offensive statistics at the International Cup.
The team recorded a .377 batting average, collected 43 hits and scored 40 runs while allowing 10.
Janae Jefferson led the American batting lineup with a .545 average, followed by Maya Brady at .538 and Skylar Wallace at .455.
Netherlands, China and Mexico Face Competitive Battle
While the USA enters as the clear favourite, the battle for the remaining qualification places could be much closer.
The Netherlands, China and Mexico, ranked No. 5, No. 7 and No. 8 respectively, are separated by relatively narrow margins in the world rankings. Their performances in Oklahoma City could therefore have a major impact on the final qualification picture.
New Zealand also brings significant World Cup experience, while Brazil will return to the competition after a decade away from the global tournament.
With two direct qualification spots available and the final Wild Card also at stake, every game in Oklahoma City could prove important as the six teams compete for a place at the 2027 WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals.
