Punjab Sets October 4 Deadline for CM E-Bike Scheme Applications

The Punjab government has announced October 4, 2026 as the deadline for students wishing to apply for the Chief Minister’s E-Bike Scheme.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that more than 432,000 students registered for the programme within just two days, highlighting the strong interest among students across the province.

Eligible students can submit their applications through the scheme’s official online portal before the deadline.

100,000 Electric Bikes to Be Distributed

The current phase of the initiative plans to provide 100,000 electric bikes to students across Punjab.

To make the programme more affordable, the provincial government has introduced subsidized, interest-free financing for eligible applicants.

Under the scheme, the government will provide a Rs. 90,000 subsidy for each bike, while students will not be required to make an upfront down payment.

The remaining cost will be recovered through monthly installments over a three-year period, with the Punjab government covering the interest charges.

Insurance and Registration Costs Covered

The scheme also includes several additional benefits designed to reduce the overall financial burden on participating students.

The government will cover:

  • Bike insurance
  • Registration charges
  • Annual token tax
  • Helmet and safety rod
  • Free driving training

The inclusion of driving training is intended to encourage safer riding practices among students receiving the electric bikes.

Scheme Aims to Improve Student Transport

The Punjab government has launched the programme to help students facing transportation challenges while travelling to and from educational institutions.

Officials also view the initiative as part of Punjab’s broader efforts to encourage electric mobility and cleaner transportation.

The strong response during the first two days has already pushed the number of registrations well beyond the 100,000-bike allocation planned for the current phase.

Students who meet the eligibility requirements and want to participate in the scheme can complete their applications before the October 4 deadline through the official application portal.
