Pakistan Defeat Malaysia 65-22 in Asian Games Kabaddi Opener

NAGOYA: Pakistan made a strong start to their men’s kabaddi campaign at the 2026 Asian Games by defeating Malaysia 65-22 in their opening Group B match on Monday.

Pakistan controlled the contest from the beginning and took a commanding 38-11 lead at halftime at the Tokai Citizens Gymnasium in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Pakistan Dominate From the Start

The Pakistani team maintained pressure through both attack and defence as the match progressed. Malaysia struggled to close the gap, while Pakistan continued to add points and eventually secured a 43-point victory.

Malaysia collected four bonus points during the match, while Pakistan also registered a super-tackle point.

The result gives Pakistan an early boost in Group B as they prepare for their next fixture.

Pakistan to Face Nepal Next

Pakistan will take on Nepal on Tuesday morning, with the match scheduled for 9:30 am local time.

The team will then face Thailand on September 23 before completing the group stage against Iran on September 24.

Malaysia will also continue its Group B campaign against Thailand before meeting Iran and Nepal.

Asian Games Kabaddi Format

The men’s kabaddi competition features two groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals.

Pakistan are placed in Group B alongside Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand and Iran, while Group A includes India, South Korea, Japan, Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei.

India are the defending men’s champions after winning the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. Pakistan claimed the bronze medal at the previous edition.

Kabaddi matches at the 2026 Asian Games are being held at the Tokai Citizens Gymnasium, with the men’s gold-medal match scheduled for September 26.
