Israeli Fire Kills Three in Gaza, Including Child and Woman
Gaza health officials said Israeli fire killed three Palestinians, including an 11-year-old child and a woman, in separate incidents across the Gaza Strip on Monday. Several other people were also reported injured.
Officials at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis said the body of 11-year-old Ismail Al-Bardawil was brought to the facility after Israeli tanks allegedly opened fire on tents housing displaced Palestinians in the Al-Mawasi area.
Mahmoud Bassal, spokesman for Gaza’s civil defence agency, said the child was among those killed in the incident.
In central Gaza, officials at Al-Awda Hospital said 31-year-old Fidaa Toutah died after suffering gunshot wounds on Salah al-Din Street, east of the Nuseirat refugee camp.
Meanwhile, Al-Shifa Hospital officials in Gaza City reported that Mohsen Ahmed Bahjat died after being shot in the head by a drone in Jabalia in northern Gaza. Gaza’s civil defence agency confirmed the identities of the three reported victims.
The civil defence agency also said its teams transported nine wounded people to hospitals following Israeli fire in Khan Yunis and the Bureij refugee camp.
The Israeli military said it was reviewing the reports when contacted by AFP.
Gaza Violence Continues Despite Ceasefire
Israel agreed to a US-brokered ceasefire in October last year, but Israeli forces have since continued operations and advanced into parts of Gaza, according to the report.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said military strikes targeting Hamas would continue.
According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 1,300 people have been killed in Israeli strikes since the ceasefire was announced. The United Nations has generally regarded figures from Gaza’s health authorities as reliable, although individual incidents can be difficult to independently verify.
Israeli Forces Raid West Bank Town
Separately, Israeli forces conducted a raid on Biddu in the occupied West Bank on Monday following a shooting that killed an Israeli settler a day earlier.
The shooting took place near the Israeli settlement of Neveh Tzuf, north of Ramallah, according to the report. The suspected attacker was later located at a hospital and detained by Israeli soldiers.
The Israeli military said troops also raided the home of the suspect’s family in Biddu, a Palestinian village northwest of Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Governorate said Israeli forces carried out a wider arrest operation in the town, targeting dozens of young men. The Palestinian local authority also alleged that homes were searched and property was damaged during the operation.
Biddu Mayor Nazmi Mansour said the raid began after midnight, with numerous military vehicles and soldiers entering the town. He said troops conducted house-to-house searches and established temporary interrogation centres in buildings they had taken control of.
The Israeli military’s actions and the Palestinian authorities’ accounts could not be independently verified in all details.
