Russian Strikes Across Ukraine Kill Eight, Authorities Say

KYIV: Russian air attacks across Ukraine, including strikes on the capital Kyiv, killed at least eight people, Ukrainian authorities said on Sunday.

The latest attacks came as Ukraine prepares for another winter amid the ongoing war, with officials reporting damage to residential areas and other civilian infrastructure in several regions.

Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi said three people were killed when Russian strikes hit a children’s centre in the northern city of Sumy. The victims included a 16-year-old girl.

President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier reported three deaths following overnight attacks in the southern Zaporizhzhia region. He also said a Russian drone strike in Kyiv killed one man.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said a woman and two 16-year-olds were injured in the capital and taken to hospital.

The Kyiv administration reported damage at 16 locations, including 12 private homes on the outskirts of the city. A warehouse and a production facility were also affected.

In the southern Odesa region, local authorities reported another death following what they described as a major aerial attack. Regional governor Oleg Kiper said residential buildings, a shop, a hotel, a medical facility and a grain warehouse were damaged.

Zelensky said Ukraine had faced a heavy volume of Russian aerial attacks during the past week. According to his statement, Russian forces launched more than 2,200 attack drones, around 1,650 aerial bombs and 38 missiles of different types.

He said a significant number of the missiles were ballistic weapons and alleged that many of the attacks targeted residential areas and other civilian infrastructure across Ukraine.

The latest strikes followed renewed statements from Moscow that it intended to continue pursuing its stated objectives in the war.
