13 Measles Cases Reported in South Waziristan as Health Concerns Grow

Health authorities have reported 13 measles cases in Lower South Waziristan over the past two days, raising concerns about the spread of the infectious disease among children in the district.

According to Jan Mohammad, medical superintendent of the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana, seven cases were recorded a day earlier, followed by six additional cases on Tuesday.

The district health department said most children in different parts of Wana had already received measles vaccinations. It added that teams had been formed in several areas to strengthen preventive measures and help contain the spread of the disease.

Despite these efforts, local residents have raised concerns about the availability of healthcare facilities at Wana Hospital. They said children affected by measles were facing difficulties in accessing adequate treatment because of limited medical resources.

Residents urged the relevant authorities to improve hospital services, ensure the availability of essential medical equipment and supplies, and provide timely care for children suffering from the disease.

They also called for stronger vaccination efforts and improved treatment facilities to reduce the risk of further infections and protect children across the area.

The latest cases come just days after twin siblings reportedly died of measles in the Santoi area of Shakai tehsil in Lower South Waziristan, according to information provided by the health department.

The reported infections and deaths have renewed calls for improved healthcare access, effective vaccination coverage and timely medical attention for children in the region.
