Glacier-Related Risks During Monsoon
Northern regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan remain vulnerable to glacier-related incidents, particularly during the monsoon season.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has previously warned that higher-than-normal temperatures could accelerate glacier and snow melt, increasing the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) and localized flooding.
Pakistan is home to thousands of glaciers, making climate-related glacier hazards an important concern for mountain communities. Authorities continue to advise residents and visitors in northern areas to follow official weather and safety advisories, especially during the monsoon season.
