5.4-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

A 5.4-magnitude earthquake shook large parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, with tremors felt across multiple cities and districts.

According to seismological officials, the epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan. The quake occurred at a depth of approximately 215 kilometres.

Areas Affected

Strong tremors were reported across several regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Swat, Buner, Hangu, Shangla, Kohat, Mohmand, Shabqadar, Bajaur, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Swabi, and Dera Ismail Khan.

Residents in Tank, Upper South Waziristan, Lower South Waziristan, and surrounding areas also reported feeling the earthquake.

In Punjab, tremors were felt in Multan and nearby areas, while Islamabad and Rawalpindi were also shaken.

Emergency Response

Rescue authorities confirmed that no immediate reports of casualties or major damage had been received following the earthquake.

The public was advised to remain alert and contact emergency services at 1122 in case of any emergency situation.

Seismic Activity in the Region

Pakistan lies in a seismically active region due to its location near the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. As a result, the country frequently experiences earthquakes of varying intensity.

Officials continue to monitor the situation for any aftershocks or further seismic activity.
