Sanam Saeed Discusses ‘Barzakh,’ Cultural Exchange, and Future Plans
Pakistani actress Sanam Saeed recently spoke to Hindustan Times about her new show, Barzakh, and its impact, following its removal from YouTube Pakistan due to viewer backlash. The show, which features LGBTQ themes, has sparked significant debate since its debut.
In the interview, Saeed described the reaction to Barzakh as “overwhelming,” sharing that viewers have praised the show’s cinematography, color palette, costumes, and acting. “The feedback has been extraordinary,” she said, noting that many have been “mesmerized” and “blown away” by the series.
The first episode of the 6-part series has garnered over 4 million views on YouTube, despite some criticism for its themes. Saeed mentioned that the show has been an “eye-opener” for Indian audiences, offering them a glimpse into Pakistani culture.
She highlighted the significance of cultural exchange between Pakistan and India, noting that while Pakistanis are familiar with Indian culture through Bollywood and television, Indians have fewer opportunities to experience Pakistani culture. Saeed praised the role of platforms like Zindagi, which has helped bridge this gap.
On the topic of working in India, Saeed said, “I haven’t had the chance to work in India yet, but I look forward to it in the future.” She emphasized the importance of cross-cultural collaborations and expressed hope that such exchanges will continue to grow.
Saeed also touched on past collaborations and festivals that have brought Indian and Pakistani actors together, expressing optimism about the future of cultural and artistic connections between the two countries.
