Sindh Police Given 10-Day Deadline to Quit Gutka and Mawa Usage
In a move aimed at improving discipline and professional standards, the Sindh Police have been issued a strict 10-day ultimatum to stop using gutka and mawa, two widely consumed but harmful chewing substances.
Warning Issued by Top Officials
According to an official letter from AIG Imran Qureshi to the Inspector General of Sindh Police, a significant number of officers are believed to be habitual users of these substances. The letter cites serious concerns raised by senior authorities regarding the continued use of gutka and mawa within the department.
The notification highlights that such habits not only pose serious health risks but also reflect poorly on the professionalism of the police force.
Disciplinary Action for Non-Compliance
Officers identified as users have been formally warned to quit within 10 days or face disciplinary action, which may include suspension or dismissal from service.
AIG Qureshi has directed all units to compile and submit a comprehensive list of personnel using gutka or mawa. The list should include names, ranks, and the actions taken against each individual.
Focus on Health & Accountability
The letter also encourages rehabilitation measures for affected officers, showing a focus on long-term wellness and reform rather than punishment alone. Police units have been instructed to submit bi-weekly reports to the DIGP Establishment, Karachi, for ongoing monitoring and review.
This new directive underscores the department’s push for a cleaner, healthier, and more disciplined police force, aligning with national efforts to curb the use of harmful substances in public institutions.
