The Hundred Men’s 2025 Match 8: Trent Rockets beat Northern Superchargers by 5 wickets

(Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail)

Trent Rockets secured a five-wicket victory over Northern Superchargers at Trent Bridge, maintaining their perfect start to The Hundred this season.

In front of a home crowd of 13,497, the Rockets limited Andrew Flintoff’s Superchargers to 128-9 in their 100 balls. Despite some resistance from the Superchargers, the Rockets chased down the target with four balls to spare, thanks to a balanced performance with both bat and ball.

The pitch offered assistance to bowlers, with the ball gripping on the dry surface and making batting challenging. Spinners Akeal Hosein and Rehan Ahmed each took two wickets, effectively keeping the Superchargers’ batters in check. Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis played a key role by breaking the crucial 56-run partnership between top-scorer Harry Brook and Graham Clarke, and also took two wickets in two balls while conceding no runs in his five deliveries.

When it was the Superchargers’ turn to chase, Imad Wasim was exceptional, taking three wickets, including two in consecutive balls. Adil Rashid also impressed by restricting runs and picking up two wickets.

The Rockets’ batsmen, led by Stoinis and Adam Hose, worked steadily to reach the target with confidence, finishing the game ahead with four balls remaining.

Man of the Match Akeal Hosein praised his team’s unity and resilience, saying, “It’s a happy and talented bunch, and whenever the ball is thrown to us, it’s our chance to make it happen. Even when things don’t go perfectly, we have each other’s backs.”

He added about the close finish, “I walked out without pads, confident the boys would get it done. It was closer than we’d like, but we’re glad to come out on top.”

Match Summary:
Trent Rockets (Men) 128/5 (96 balls)
Northern Superchargers (Men) 124/9 (100 balls)
Result: Trent Rockets won by 5 wickets
